Mrs. Vazquez - Professional Learning Coordinator

Janisse Vázquez is the Professional Learning Coordinator (PLC) at The ASK Academy. As the PLC, Mrs. Vázquez holds three positions: Instructional Coach, Professional Development Coordinator, and Testing Coordinator. 

This will be Mrs. Vázquez's 8th year at The ASK Academy. Before becoming the PLC, she held several leadership positions at ASK, including the 6th-grade Team Leader, the Social Studies Content Leader,  and the Professional Development Coordinator part-time. Since 2021, she has been a New Mexico State Education Ambassador. She was on the NMPED Social Studies Standards Writing Team and worked as Co-Leader of the Middle School writing team, and was on the rubric writing committee for the social studies instructional materials with NMPED. Mrs. Vázquez also served two years on the Social Studies Dream Team with NMPED. As a Social Studies educator, she worked with NMPED to write the 6th grade Social Studies End-of-Course assessment for the state.  In 2022-2023, she was part of the Launch Program with the Priority Schools Bureau. For the new school year, she will be working on the Instructional Leadership Project with NMPED.

Mrs. Vázquez is originally from the beautiful island of Puerto Rico. She earned her Bachelor's degree from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, MA, and has a Master's degree from the University of New Mexico in Language, Literacy, and Sociocultural Studies. She taught middle school for 18 years before becoming the PLC at ASK. She earned the Golden Apple Teacher of Distinction Award in 2018 and 2015.  Before her time as an educator, Mrs. Vázquez was an Academic Advisor from 2001-2006 at the University of New Mexico.

When not at work, Mrs. Vázquez spends time with her husband and two beautiful little boys. She looks forward to continuing to serve the ASK community and help the Project Managers with their professional endeavors.
