Course Description:

COURSE DESCRIPTION:  Scholars will have the opportunity to learn and demonstrate an understanding of various applications and resources, which will include the Google Suite, Microsoft Office, other software (Canva, etc.), internet use and research, typing, coding, design and a wide variety of computer peripherals. Technology will be used for project-based learning, problem solving, research, as well as a communication tool. Scholars will use these technology skills to help improve all academic subjects as we integrate technology into current curriculum and core subjects. First semester will be Computer Applications and the second semester will be Computer Science.

CLASS EXPECTATIONS: Be kind, positive, respectful and prepared for class. Scholars should be on time to class and ready to participate. It is vital that scholars check their Google Classroom, email and PowerSchool daily.

 

CELL PHONE POLICY: Cell phones are not to be used in class without Project Managers approval. Scholars are expected to keep their cell phone turned off and in their backpack at all times including before school, passing period and at lunch.

 

If a Scholar does not follow the 6th grade ASK Academy policy…

  •       1st offense-Project Manager will keep the cell phone until the end of the class period.
  •       2nd offense-Project Manager will turn the cell phone into the front office and the scholar can pick it up at the end of the school day.
  •       3rd offense-Project Manager will turn the cell phone into the front office and the Scholars parent will have to pick up the cell phone.

 

CRITERIA FOR EVALUATION:

GRADES - Scholar’s semester grades will be calculated as follows:

Quarter 1 – 40%          Quarter 2 – 40%          Semester Final – 20%

Quarter 3 - 40%               Quarter 4- 40%                Semester Final - 20%

GRADING SCALE:   The grading scale will follow the ASK Academy standards:

A+ = 96-100 %, A = 90-95 %, B = 80-89 %, C = 70-79 %, N/C (No credit) = Below 70 %

Scholars will be evaluated by total points earned.  The point values vary based on the difficulty and sustained effort required.  Demonstration of learning activities include: homework, projects, quizzes, tests and daily classwork.

HOMEWORK POLICY: Work that is assigned has purpose and value at that moment, therefore, due dates are not suggestions. Assignments, no matter how big or small, are held to the same standard. All work for the week should be done no later than Friday of that week.

LATE WORK POLICY: Scholars will be given an automatic deduction of 10% for any assignment turned in after the assigned due date. A “0” will be given on the due date and will be replaced with the score received after submission of the assignment. Any late work must be submitted by the following dates in accordance with progress reports and report cards being finalized.

  •       August 27th (All work prior to this date is due)
  •       October 2nd (All work prior to this date is due)
  •       November 5th (All work prior to this date is due)
  •       December 13th (All work prior to this date is due)
  •       January 28th (All work prior to this date is due)
  •       February 28th (All work prior to this date is due)
  •       April 1st (All work prior to this date is due)
  •       May 16th (All work prior to this date is due)

Please use Friday intervention when needed for support.

ABSENCES: Excused absences and other extenuating circumstances allow for exceptions on a case-by-case basis per the Scholar Handbook. It is the scholar’s responsibility to set up a time to retake tests or make up work outside of class time.

CHEATING: Cheating will result in a zero (will not be regraded) and lunch redirection will be assigned and parents will be notified.

COMPUTER GAMES: Games are not allowed during class time. Scholars will receive a warning. If the warning is not heeded, lunch redirection will be assigned and parents will be notified.

PROJECT EXPECTATIONS: Collaboration and participation are essential while working on projects. Do your part to be a good team member.

PLANNER POLICY: Each scholar has been provided with a Paulson Planner to use for the year. It is expected that the scholar fills out their planner daily for each class with assignments, upcoming projects, tests, etc. I am asking that parents help with scholar accountability by reviewing and initialing planners nightly. Scholars will receive a weekly grade.
