Roberta Torrez-Brown - Counselor

Hello and welcome to my page! I am Roberta and I am happy to be part of the ASK family.
I am a native New Mexican born and raised. I started my career in education as a high school substitute teacher which turned into pursuing a teaching degree. I have a Bachelor's in Secondary Education 7-12 with an emphasis in Social Studies and taught at the high school level for a few years. I moved on to teach Adult Basic Education for the  University of New Mexico Special Programs via the High School Equivalency Program (H.E.P.) and El Centro de la Raza until I decided that counseling is where I belong. I pursued and obtained a Master's in Social Psychology and a Master's in School Counseling and I have been working in education now for fifteen years. I am also a member of The American School Counseling Association (ASCA).

My role as the school counselor at ASK is to support students' academic success and to help scholars navigate career choices and skill sets that align with those choices. With individualized guidance, I also assist with goal setting, short-term counseling in emotion regulation and interpersonal skills development. I collaborate with administrators, project managers, and families to identify specific academic/social emotional supports that address needs and challenges in the learning process which also helps to improve equity in having access to achievement and opportunities for all scholars.

I serve the 6th - 12th grade scholars at the ASK Academy. If scholars want to speak to me about social/emotional concerns or need individualized guidance, they can send me a request to meet here.

Parents, do you have questions for me? The best way to contact me is by email at [email protected]
